At the Swords Club we provide lesson for adults of all ages and all skill sets, from beginners to advanced level fencers.

Learn to Fence

As an adult we offer two ways to learn fencing we offer both class and individual lessons

Individual Lessons

We provide individual lessons for adults to build their skills as fencer to provide them enough skill to join the adult class held on Tuesday or get invovled in our social bouting sessions at the club.

As part of the beginner lessons we provide a supply equipment for the duration of the beginner course.

Duration:Beginners course runs for a minimum duration of 12 weeks. Lesson are 20-30mins.
Cost:$300 (10 x lessons) – payable to the coach direct
When:Available on Tuesday and Saturday. Times of these will vary depending on availability of the coach.
Beginner registration fee:
$50
Equipment provided:You will receive a mask and jacket for the duration of their beginner lessons. Females will also be provided with a breast plate. A glove will need to be purchased ($35) on their first lesson.

At the end of the beginners course you can:

  • Once you have completed the beginner course and decide to continue  (whether in the class and/or individual lessons and/or social fencing), you will need to become a member of the club and have your own basic equipment.

We encourage all fencers who have completed the course to join our adult group lessons or scoail fencing to further their skills and fencer with other people.

Adult beginner classes

We run beginner group classes throughout the year.

The next beginner class will commence on Tuesday 2nd May 2023

This is a great way to learn with your friends, along with other adults who have never fenced before.

Duration:Beginners course runs for a minimum duration of 12 weeks. Lesson are 60 mins
Lesson cost:$200 (payable to the coach)
When:Tuesday 6:30pm – 7:30pm
Beginner registration fee:$50
Equipment provided:You will receive a mask and jacket for the duration of their beginner lessons. Females will also be provided with a breast plate. A glove will need to be purchased ($35) on their first lesson.

At the end of the beginners course you can:

  • Once you have completed the beginner course and decide to continue  (whether in the class and/or individual lessons and/or social fencing), you will need to become a member of the club and have your own basic equipment.

All fencers who complete the beginners course will be encouraged to join our adult group lessons or social fencing to further their skills and fencer with other people.

Class Lessons

Adult Intermediate class

Adult classes are held every Tuesday to give you a chance to learn and fence in a fun environment. 

These classes are aimed at our intermediate level adult members who have compeleted the beginners course. The will practice their footwork skills, refine their technique and also bout one another practicing the skills they learnt.

When:Tuesday 7:30pm to 8:30pm
Cost:$200 per term or $20 for one class lesson
Equipment:Fencers in this class are expected to have the Basic Kit to attend this class. This includes a mask, glove and jacket (breast plate required for girls).

Fencers who join this class are also encouraged to stay after class and join other members for a bout or two.

Other training available

If you have completed the beginners course and are looking for extra training we also provide other training at the club

Social Fencing

General fencing and bouting is held during the week. This is open for anyone to come and have a hit and to put into practice the skills they have learnt. It is open to all ages and levels of fencing.

You need to be a club member to join or for casual visitors pay a visitors fee. Join as a member here.

Individual Lessons

When:Available on Tuesday and Saturday. Times vary depending on the individual coaches

Equipment:Fencers require a minimum of a mask, glove and jacket
