Children’s Lessons

At the Swords Club we provide lesson for children from beginners to advanced level fencers. We provide lesson to children from the ages of 7 and above.

Learn to Fence

Beginners Class

We run beginners group classes throughout the intended for people who have never fenced previously.

The next beginner class will commence Term 2, 11:00am, Saturday 29th April 2023

This is a great way to learn with your friends, along with other people who have never fenced before.

Duration:Beginners course runs for a minimum duration of 10 weeks. Lesson are 60 mins
Lesson cost:$200 (payable to the coach)
When:Saturday 11:00am – 12:00am
Beginner registration fee:$50
Equipment provided:You will receive a mask and jacket for the duration of their beginner lessons. Females will also be provided with a breast plate. A glove will need to be purchased ($35) on their first lesson.

At the end of the beginners course you can:

  • Once you have completed the beginner course and decide to continue  (whether in the class and/or individual lessons and/or social fencing), you will need to become a member of the club and have your own basic equipment.

All fencers who complete the beginners course will be progressed to our next level group lessons and are welcome to participate in social fencing to further their skills and fencer with other people.

Individual lessons

We offer children with the option to learn fencing through 12 individual lessons. They learn the skills to be able to join one of our junior/children’s classes which are held on Saturdays.

As part of the beginner lessons we provide a supply equipment for your child for the duration of their beginner course.

Duration:Beginners course runs for a minimum duration of 12 weeks. Lesson are 20-30mins.


Cost:
$300 (10 x lessons)
When:Available on Tuesday and Saturday. Times of these will vary depending on availability of the coach.
Beginner Fee:
$50
Equipment provided:You child will receive a mask and jacket for the duration of their beginner lessons. Girls will also be provided with a breast plate. A glove will need to be purchased ($35) on their first lesson.

At the end of the beginners course you can:

  • Purchase the gear using your deposit and paying the difference in cost
  • Purchase your own equipment and return the hired equiment. Deposit will be returned
  • If you decide not to continue, you can return the equipment and your deposit will be returned.

We encourage all children who have completed the beginners course to join our children group lessons.

Class Lessons

Children’s group classes

Children’s classes are held every Saturday to give children a chance to learn and fence in a fun environment. 

These classes are aimed at our beginner to intermediate level junior members who have compeleted the beginners course. The will practice their footwork skills, refine their technique and also bout one another practicing the skills they learnt.

When:Saturday 12:00pm – 1:30pm
Cost:$200 per term or $20 for one class lesson
Equipment:Fencers in this class are expected to have the Basic Kit to attend this class. This includes a mask, glove and jacket (breast plate required for girls).

Advanced Junior Class

The Advanced Juniors classes are held every Saturday for junior fencers (U20). This is aimed at our more Advanced students who are training a multiple times a week and attending competitions on a regular basis.

This class is by invitation only. To participate in this class your child’s skill and experience level will need to be assessed.

When:Saturday 1.00pm to 2.30pm
Cost:$200 per term or $20 for one class lesson
Equipment:Fencers in this class are expected to have the full electric kit for this class.
This includes a mask, glove, jacket, breeches, underplastron, electric foil, lame and bodywires (breast plate required for girls).

Other training available

If you have completed the beginners course and are looking for extra training we also provide other training at the club

Social Fencing

General fencing and bouting is held during the week. This is open for anyone to come and have a hit and to put into practice the skills they have learnt. It is open to all ages and levels of fencing.

You need to be a club member to join or for casual visitors pay a visitors fee. Join as a member here.

Individual Lessons

When:Available on Tuesday and Saturday. Times vary depending on the individual coaches
Cost:Cost will vary depending on the coach
Equipment:Fencers require a minimum of a mask, glove and jacket
