Easter Holiday Camp 2023

The Swords Club will be hosting a holiday fencing camp this Easter Holidays.

The camp will be for our junior fencers who have at least completed their beginner course and ideally have been fencing for at least a few months. 

The camp will run from 17 to 19 April, Monday to Wednesday, from 9:30am sharp (arrive no later than 9:00am) to 3:30pm.

You will need to have also completed your membership for 2023 to attend the camp.

Cost will be $240 for the 3 days, paid to the club account on or before end of Saturday, 15 April 2023.

2022 Nils Saksen Mixed Handicap Foil Competition

Get ready for the Club’s biggest annual event which promises lots of fun and camaraderie for everyone — fencers, parents, and friends alike.

DATE: Saturday, 10 December 2022
TIME: Arrive at 8:30am for 9:00am roll call
FEE: $25

Please note that your 2022 membership is required to be up to date and paid to enter the competition

Club members of all ages and standards are invited and encouraged to compete. Fencing will be both electric and non-electric (for those who don’t have electric equipment) with score handicaps against the more competent fencers. Prizes will be awarded to all finalists (top 6).

Not fencing? You’re still invited to join us and cheer on the fencers, help with hospitality, or just have a chat with everyone else.

Parking will be available in the school through the gates to the left of the loading bay.

2023 Membership Fees

Senior Membership fee for 2023 will remain at $200.

Junior Membership fee for 2023 will remain at $160. You can use any remaining 2022 NSW Active Kids voucher for your 2022 membership fee if you send your voucher details to Fiona Budniak (theswordsclub@gmail.com) on or before 18 December 2022.

Deadline to pay your 2023 Membership Fees will be 31 March 2023. The Club uses your membership fee to pay for the Club venue and insurance for our members.

McEvoy Cup U18 Foil Competion 2022 – Saturday 20th August

The Swords Club McEvoy Cup U18’s Foil Competition, will be held in one weeks time on Saturday, 20 August 2022, at The Swords Club. This event is open to all members born 2004 or later and all kids are encouraged to participate, regardless of experience.

Details as follows:

Date: Saturday, 20 August 2022

Time: Arrival and registration at 11:30am; roll call 11:50am, start of bouts at midday. Please arrive at 11:30am so that we can draw up poules to start promptly at midday.

Venue:
 The Swords Club, North Sydney Girls HS Hall

Format: The competition will start with poules and continue with direct elimination (DE) bouts until completed. DEs will be up to 10 points until the round of 8, and then to 15 points.

Equipment: All fencing will be using electric equipment if possible. There will be limited Club gear available to borrow on the day. If you have them, please wear full fencing whites, although tracksuit pants will be acceptable.

Entry Fee: $15 per fencer payable on the day.

Winter Fencing Camp – July 2022

The Swords Club’s winter fencing camp is happening this coming school holidays.

The camp will include fitness exercises, footwork drills, fencing drills, structured and supervised bouting and will conclude with a mini competition. This camp is aimed at our younger who have electric bouting /competition experience, who would like to raise theri level of competitiveness.

Dates: Monday 4th July – Wednesday 6th July 2022

Time: 9am arrival for 9:30am start to 3:30pm.

Cost: $180

Changes to Saturday Class timetable – effective Saturday 30th April

The club committee is constantly looking at ways to improve childrens’ fencing experience. We believe it is beneficial for children to have the opportunity to watch, interact with and learn from more experienced fencers. We believe such connections create a more engaging learning environment and foster a better club culture. To achieve this we are making some adjustments to Saturday group class times.

Starting Saturday 30th April there will be some changes to the class time table.

Advanced class (previously 12pm – 1pm) will run from 1pm – 2:30pm

Children’s Beginner/intermediate class (previously 1:30pm to 2:30pm) will now run from 12pm – 1:30pm.

Beginner Classes starting next week!

The next beginner class will commence next week.

Adult’s beginners class will start 6:30pm Tuesday 26th April.

Children’s begginners class 11:00am Saturday 30 April 2022.

This is a great way to learn with your friends, along with other people who have never fenced before.

Duration:

Beginners course runs for a minimum duration of 10 weeks. Lessons are 60 mins

Lesson cost: $200 for thecourse (payable to the coach)

Beginner registration fee: $50

Equipment provided: You will receive a mask and jacket for the duration of their beginner lessons. Females will also be provided with a breast plate. 

A glove will need to be purchased ($35) on their first lesson.

Both registration and glove are payable to the club.

At the end of the beginners course you can:

Once you have completed the beginner course and decide to continue (whether in the class and/or individual lessons and/or social fencing), you will need to become a member of the club and have your own basic equipment.

All fencers who complete the beginners course will be progressed to our next level group lessons and are welcome to participate in social fencing to further their skills and fencer with other people.

Competition Results – NSW Season Opener

Sportsmanship, camaraderie and a strong sense of competition made for a great day for The Swords Club at the NSW Season Opener. Congratulations to ou fencers Jonah Newton for taking gold in the Open Men’s Foil, Hilary Byrne for taking gold in the Veteran Women’s Foil on her return to competition fencing. We would also like to congratulate to Guillaume for his silver in the Men’s Veterans Foil in a tightly fenced final, as well as Vince and Suzanne Newton for their Bronze and Silver medals in the Veteran’s Competition. Special Congratulations to Andrew Vickery for competing in his first state competition.

Competition Results – Under 15s Sydney Olympic Cup and the Under 20s State Championships

The 2022 Season kicked off with the Under 15s Sydney Olympic Cup and the Under 20s State Championships on Sunday Feburary 13th 2022.

We had two of our younger club members Matt Ng and Finn Trimnell-Ritchard at the Under 15 Sydney Olympic Cup. Both barrelled through their poule rounds and came through in their first DE rounds. Well done boys!
